My teaching interests grow out of a commitment to making history meaningful, accessible, and usable for students. I focus on American history, world history, and the history of medicine and disease, with a particular interest in how global connections, pandemics, and social change shape the world we live in. I care deeply about teaching students how to think like historians—how to source documents, evaluate evidence, trace continuity and change, and build clear, grounded arguments. Because my students come from a wide variety of backgrounds and preparation levels, I design courses that are active, inclusive, and intentionally scaffolded. I rely on Universal Design for Learning to ensure students can engage with material in multiple ways, access content through different formats, and demonstrate their learning using clear, flexible pathways. I also enjoy creating innovative online learning experiences, including TiLTed assignments, structured note-taking, guided primary source work, and thoughtful uses of inquiry-based learning to help students get started and build confidence. At the heart of my teaching is a simple goal: helping students see why history matters and how it connects to their own lives, communities, and futures.
